Commitment to Quality & Technical Excellence

At Mackeil Ispat and Forging Limited (MIFL), quality is not an afterthought — it is engineered into every stage of production. Our dedicated Research and Quality Assurance (QA) Department continuously works to uphold the highest standards of metallurgical precision, reliability, and performance. We aim to deliver products that consistently meet — and exceed — customer expectations, earning their complete confidence in our craftsmanship.

Quality Assurance Framework

Inspection Facilities
  • Material Inspection: Verification of raw material integrity and compliance with specifications.
  • Product Inspection: Comprehensive dimensional and surface evaluations at multiple production stages.
Laboratory Capabilities
  • Chemical Tests: Conducted using advanced spectrometers to ensure exact chemical composition.
  • Physical Tests: Strength, toughness, and ductility testing under controlled conditions.
Non-Destructive Examination (NDE)
  • Techniques such as Magnetic Particle, Dye Penetrant, and Ultrasonic Testing ensure internal soundness and defect-free forgings.

Technical Excellence

Gas Control in Ingots:

Hydrogen ≤ 2 PPM, Nitrogen ≤ 90 PPM.

Oxygen levels certified at:

  • 25 PPM (max) for low-carbon grades
  • 20 PPM (max) for medium carbon and alloy steels
  • 15 PPM (max) for high-carbon grades (e.g., ball bearing steels)
Forging Ratio:

Both upset and drawing forgings are performed, maintaining a minimum reduction ratio of 4:1, with higher ratios achieved depending on ingot size and final geometry.

Heat Treatment Facility:

MIFL operates a fully automated, PLC-controlled heat treatment shop with:

  • Gas-fired furnaces for slow cooling, hardening, and tempering
  • Two quenching tanks (water and oil) with agitation and temperature control
  • SCADA-based monitoring and digital recording of heating cycles for precision traceability

Comprehensive Testing & Quality Validation

Our QA department ensures full traceability and consistent mechanical integrity through the following tests:

  • Internal Soundness: Guaranteed up to 2mm FBH (finer as per client request)
  • Hardness: 30 BHN range (20 BHN for special cases)
  • Dimensional Tolerance: +3 / –0 (unless otherwise specified)
  • Grain Size: Typically ASTM 6–8, with fine grain structure guaranteed up to ASTM 5–8
  • Chemical Composition: Controlled with restricted chemistry for precision carbon, manganese, chromium, and nickel levels
  • Inclusion Ratings: ASTM E45, not exceeding 1.5 (A–D) thin & thick series
